If a starfish loses an arm to a hungry predator, it can often grow a brand new one back.

How can losing a whole arm not be the end for a starfish?
starfish keeps important parts of its body, including branches of its digestive and nervous systems, spread out through each arm rather than packed only in the middle. That means if one arm is lost, the starfish's body can slowly direct cells to rebuild the missing limb over the following months, good as new. Starfish regrow lost parts using the very same patient, unhurried pace they use for everything else, including the long, slow effort it takes to pry open a stubborn shell for dinner.
