Traveling air

The Wind's Whisper

Wind is simply air hurrying from a place where it's pushing harder to a place where it's pushing less.

How we make Wild Wonder ·

Let's look closer

Where does wind come from?

unlight warms some parts of the Earth's surface more than others, heating a sunny field faster than a shaded forest or a cool ocean nearby. Warm air becomes lighter and rises, and cooler, heavier air rushes in underneath to take its place, creating a steady flow. That rushing, moving air is what we feel brushing past our faces as wind, and the bigger the temperature difference between two places, the stronger the wind tends to blow.
