Wild Wonder story
Sunny's Slow Dance
Every morning, a little sunflower named Sunny wakes up facing the same quiet direction. By the time the stars come out, she has turned all the way around the sky and back again.
A golden good morning
In a garden at the edge of a meadow grew a young sunflower named Sunny. Every single morning she woke up facing the very same direction: east, right where the sun first peeked over the hills. "Good morning, sun," she whispered, opening her golden petals wide.
Pip visits at noon
As the sun climbed higher, something wonderful happened. Sunny began to turn, so slowly that no one ever caught her moving. A ladybug named Pip landed nearby. "Sunny, how do you do that? I never see you turn!" Sunny giggled. "I just love the sun so much, I can't help but follow her."
Chasing the last light
All afternoon Sunny leaned west, keeping her face toward the warm light, drinking in every golden ray. By evening, the sun sank low and painted the sky orange and pink. Sunny had traveled all the way from east to west, just by turning, petal by petal, all day long.
A secret nighttime dance
"Aren't you tired from all that turning?" Pip asked. "A little," said Sunny, "but watch. Tonight I rest and dream, and something magical happens while I sleep." That night, while crickets sang, one side of her stem grew just a tiny bit faster than the other, and slowly, slowly, she turned back toward the east.
Ready to greet the day
When dawn came, Pip gasped. "Sunny, you're facing east again! How did you get all the way back around?" Sunny stretched her petals to the first light. "I turned all night while I slept. Every day I follow the sun, and every night I quietly swing back home to greet the sunrise."
