How can one insect fly in every direction like that?
nlike most flying insects, a dragonfly's front and back wings aren't locked together โ tiny muscles at the base of each wing let it beat independently, tilting in different directions at once. This gives the dragonfly incredible control, letting it hover in place, dart sideways, or stop instantly in midair. Dragonflies have flown this way for hundreds of millions of years, long before dinosaurs ever walked the earth.
