How can a bat "see" with sound?
ats send out quick, high-pitched calls that bounce off trees, insects, and cave walls, then return to the bat's sensitive ears as echoes. By listening to how long each echo takes to come back, and from which direction, a bat can tell exactly how far away something is and whether it's moving. This echolocation is so sharp that some bats can even tell the difference between a tasty moth and a harmless leaf fluttering in the very same spot, all in total darkness.
